ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER

Access to clean water changes lives.

Without clean water, families and communities will continue to struggle in poverty. Available clean water brings better hygiene and sanitation. As a result, all people can flourish and children who are in better health will be more likely to attend school.

A reliable source of clean water can also allow for the planning of agricultural initiatives and can sustain livestock. This will result in food being more available for poor families.

Project 1: The Water Well & Agriculture in Kajiado

In the fall of 2021, the first borehole was drilled at the Olkesumet Prayer Response Center. As the project progresses, it could potentially impact 2500 to 3000 people, and this number does not even include livestock. The people are overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude, for this well is a major blessing in their community. We have targeted two areas to improve the sustainability of VMK and increase the economics of communities.

Progress Thus Far

We have entered the 3rd Phase of the project, which will focus on long-term agricultural solutions in the hopes that improvements in agricultural productivity will create social and economic ripple effects. This would include fencing, clearing the land, cultivation, procuring seeds, fertilizer, and tools, and building a storage house.

Read more about the project on our blog (Phase 1&2) here and (Phase 3) here.

The urgent need of the hour is to build a fence around the land. We need to safeguard the progress the Maasai have made so far! Will you help us achieve this goal?

Project 2: Drinking Water in Pokot

Pokot, a community known for its resilience and strength, has faced challenges due to limited access to clean water. Many families in this region have to travel long distances daily to fetch water, often from unreliable or contaminated sources. This poses a significant health risk, especially for women and children.

The Solution: Pipeline from the Mountain Spring

The plan is to construct a 4 km pipeline that will transport fresh, clean water from a mountain spring directly to the heart of the Pokot community. This pipeline will serve as a lifeline, ensuring a sustainable and reliable supply of safe drinking water for hundreds of households.

Impact and Benefits

Access to clean water will not only improve the health and well-being of the community but also empower the residents, particularly women and girls, who often bear the responsibility of water collection. With access to reliable clean water, they’ll have more time for education, economic activities, and community development. We believe this will impact upwards of 60,000 people in the region, over an area of about 50 sq km.

Helping the Maasai Access Clean Water

Water scarcity is a significant issue for the Maasai tribe in Kenya, who traditionally rely on pastoralism and need access to water for their cattle. Climate change and increasing human populations have led to competition for resources and the degradation of the natural environment, exacerbating the problem. The Maasai have also been forced to settle in more arid areas due to land pressure and government policies, further exacerbating water scarcity. Solutions include the development of water harvesting and storage systems and the implementation of sustainable land use practices to reduce pressure on water resources.

At ImpactHope, we believe that sustainability is critical for any effort overseas. It is vital to assist organizations and projects that are effective to find the means to become sustainable and less dependent on foreign funding. We are working together with Vision Ministries Kenya (VMK) which oversees efforts in 40 smaller communities. This well will provide greater means for VMK to be more effective in what they do!

Water for All, Hope for Tomorrow

Change starts with people like you, who have generously sowed into this project. We anticipate that the fruits of our labour will come soon for the world to see. The overall vision is to increase sustainability within the community and create opportunities for income and growth! Support this project financially and help us see it to its completion!
