Updates from Our School in Haiti

In the mountains of Fort Jacques, Haiti, a small community finds hope in a school that continues to stand tall amidst growing challenges. Vision of Grace Elementary School has been a beacon of education and opportunity, helping children from vulnerable families find a brighter future despite the upheavals in the country. Yet, the recent economic and social disruptions in Haiti have intensified the difficulties families face, making it harder for parents to prepare their children for school.

Marie-Estelle, who leads the school’s ministry, recently shared some updates about the beginning of the school year. “As you can see from some of the pictures, many children don’t have their school materials yet,” she wrote. “Their parents sent them to school because they didn’t want to keep them at home, but they weren’t fully ready.” Despite this, the teachers are doing their best to educate the children, but it is not easy without the proper resources.

The situation reflects the struggles of many families in Haiti, where soaring food prices and economic instability make basic needs like school supplies a luxury. Some children have also come to school with fever, though, as Marie notes, “the majority are doing great, thanks to God.

Among the students is Doodjina Merzier, a young girl in PS1 who is blind. With no specific school for blind children in the area, the ministry is committed to giving her a chance to learn. “Even if she can’t see, she can hear and learn,” says Marie. “We hope one day we will be able to properly accompany special kids like her.

Although Doodjina is blind, her spirit shines as she listens and learns alongside her classmates.

A Brief History of the School

Vision of Grace Elementary School has been serving the community for several years, providing not only education but also meals—often the only daily meal many of these children receive. From its humble beginnings, the school has grown into a lifeline for families in the region, offering hope and a path out of poverty.

The ministry has faced many challenges, especially in the last few years, as Haiti continues to endure political instability, gang violence, and economic hardships. Yet, thanks to the unwavering support of donors, the school has remained open and continues to serve over 70 children in the community.

Your Support Means The World To Them

Donor support has always been critical to the survival and success of the school. With the current challenges in Haiti, your contributions are more important than ever. From helping to purchase school supplies to providing meals and covering teachers’ salaries, every donation makes a direct impact on the children’s education and well-being.

As Marie and her team continue to do everything they can to teach and care for the children, there is an urgent need for further support. Whether it’s for basic supplies or for students like Doodjina, who need special attention, every bit of help ensures that these children can continue to learn and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.

We thank you for your continued generosity and prayers. Together, we can help these children overcome the barriers they face and give them the opportunity to build a better future.

How You Can Help

If you’d like to support Vision of Grace Elementary School, you can contribute to providing much-needed school supplies, meals, and resources for the students. Your donations can make a lasting difference in the lives of children like Doodjina and her classmates. Every gift brings hope and light into their world.

Tatiana's Story

From a very young age, Tatiana had a heart for serving children. After a short trip to help at an orphanage in Haiti in 2014, she was ready to go all in to serve the less fortunate children of the world. Tatiana was the driving force behind the family moving to Peru, and she loved the children of Peru.

In the summer of 2018, Tatiana Blackburn died tragically in a car accident. To honour her memory, the Blackburns started a fund called Tat’s Kids Peru. This fund was designated for the children at Tat’s Place to support the ongoing operation of the home.
