EDUCATION
Investing in education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty. There are far too many barriers to education for children in impoverished nations, especially for girls. Families who cannot afford school costs are more likely to send boys than girls. Around 15 million girls worldwide will never get the chance to attend school compared to 10 million boys. According to the World Bank, a child born to a literate mother is 50 percent more likely to survive past five years of age.
We must understand that food and education must go together. Hunger keeps children out of school and limits their ability to concentrate in school. A school breakfast or lunch program will be an essential incentive to attract children to attend school. When a child is fed, their ability to learn is vastly improved. And when a girl gets the opportunity to learn, she can feed herself and her family for years to come.
