A Partnership for Change
The Madagascar farming project is a beacon of hope for communities in desperate need of sustainable solutions to food insecurity. We’re excited to share insights from Chris Hornibrook, co-founder of Foundations for Farming Canada (FfF), who brings his vision and passion to this transformative initiative. Through his inputs, we’ll explore the impact of sustainable farming practices and how donors can play a crucial role in making a difference.
What Inspired the Launch of the Madagascar Farming Project?
When asked what inspired the launch of this project, Chris explained,
“The vision to train farmers and feed the nation through a proven program of Foundations for Farming inspired me to get involved. Not only will we send money to invest in ‘train the trainers,’ but our donors will travel to Madagascar in 2026 to see the results of their donations.”
This initiative is not just about farming; it’s about equipping local leaders with the tools and knowledge to create lasting change.
Why is Sustainable Farming Important for Communities in Madagascar?
Sustainable and regenerative farming methods are the cornerstone of this project. Chris highlights,
“The more we invest in living soil and seed management that is less dependent on chemical solutions, the better it is for producing healthy food.”
By focusing on these practices, the project aims to empower farmers to grow healthier crops while preserving the environment for future generations.
How Does the “Sponsor a Farmer” Initiative Support the Project?
At the heart of the project’s success is the “Sponsor a Farmer” initiative. Chris describes it as a game-changer,
“The key to feeding a nation is to invest in farmers, one farm at a time. Canadian donors that sponsor a farmer in 2025 will be pioneers, investing in leaders who will change this nation.”
This program allows donors to directly support local trainers, fostering a ripple effect of transformation throughout Madagascar.
What Impact Have You Seen on Trainees and Their Communities So Far?
The impact of the project is already being felt. Chris shared, “HOPE is rising in Madagascar. Early crop returns are very positive for those practicing Foundations for Farming techniques.”
With each farmer trained, the vision for a self-sufficient nation comes closer to reality.
What Message Do You Have for Potential Donors?
For those considering supporting this initiative, Chris offers a compelling message: “Donors will see results. They will meet the farmers and build personal relationships with their communities. I believe 10 years from now, donors will join me in saying this was likely the best donor investment of their lifetime.”
