Hebron Vida y Esperanza School in Nebaj, Guatemala, is starting a new library, and a volunteer team from Alberta, Nova Scotia and Ontario is travelling to Nebaj to help build it.

Why a library matters

Under Carolina’s leadership, Hebron Vida y Esperanza offers affordable education to children in the community. The school sits beside the Servicios Médicos Vida y Esperanza hospital and gives special consideration to the children of hospital staff.

Students work hard with workbooks, worksheets and wall charts, but many families cannot afford books at home. A library will give every child a place to read, discover new subjects and grow in confidence.

Building it together

The team will work alongside Carolina and the school staff to construct the library and its shelving. They are also bringing about 100 books, already purchased, to start the collection.

Please pray for the team as they travel and work, and for the students and teachers as their library takes shape.

How You Can Help

One hundred books is a wonderful start, but it won’t fill a library. We now need resources to purchase more: picture books, early readers, chapter books and reference titles.

Every gift, large or small, helps fill the shelves. When the team returns, we look forward to sharing photos of the finished library. Thank you for helping fill these shelves for the students of Hebron Vida y Esperanza.

Tatiana's Story

From a very young age, Tatiana had a heart for serving children. After a short trip to help at an orphanage in Haiti in 2014, she was ready to go all in to serve the less fortunate children of the world. Tatiana was the driving force behind the family moving to Peru, and she loved the children of Peru.

In the summer of 2018, Tatiana Blackburn died tragically in a car accident. To honour her memory, the Blackburns started a fund called Tat’s Kids Peru. This fund was designated for the children at Tat’s Place to support the ongoing operation of the home.
