Sustainable Livelihoods in Malawi
In Chikwawa District, Malawi, simple initiatives are sparking big change. The Goats Pass-On Program, launched by the Christian Faith Community Church (CFCC), is helping families build resilience against poverty and the effects of climate change. Since 2023, 60 goats have been distributed to 48 women and 12 men across four villages in Senior Chief Ngabu’s area. Families who receive goats commit to passing on offspring to other households, creating a cycle of generosity and sustainability.
Recently, District Animal Health and Livestock Development Officer, Isaac Gondwe, praised the program as a catalyst for achieving Malawi’s Vision 2063 agenda—a national plan to build wealth and improve livelihoods. He urged more partners to join such efforts.

For 19-year-old Letina Msiska from Tchanga Village, goats are more than just animals. They provide manure to fertilize crops, food security for her family, and the opportunity to look ahead with hope. She encourages other communities to embrace farming as a tool for development.
Piggery Project
But goats aren’t the only success story. In Blantyre rural, Winston and his family began a piggery project two years ago after receiving support. Today, the piglets they raise are helping the family generate income, improve nutrition, and even produce manure for farming. Winston’s story shows how small, sustainable projects can have a ripple effect—lifting families out of hardship and building lasting resilience.
CFCC General Overseer, Moses Chikuta, explained that these initiatives are designed to respond to the realities of climate change by strengthening households through sustainable farming and economic empowerment.
